The Cadillac DTS. It's a big car. It's a big fucking car . It is, in fact, the largest wheelbase and largest nose-to-ass of any car built on its platform (this includes: Seville, aurora, lesabre, park avenue, bonneville, lucerne, riviera... I think that's all of them). It was, in 2006 when it replaced the DeVille, the largest car GM made. Full-sized glory lived within it.
The Ford Fusion. It's a mid-sized car made by Aston Martin Ford. Not awful looking, not the best. It's pretty okay, and generally inoffensive
but HOLY FUCK LOOK HOW FUCKING BIG IT IS
Yes, the angle contributes a little, but the Fusion is fucking MASSIVE next to the DTS.
Also pictured, a wild Answer appears!

It appears the Fusion does have quite the frontal area compared to the low profile of the weird art and science refreshed DTS.

It looks bigger than it is... I drive one

I used to own an honest-to-goodness land whale in the form of an 1988 Cadillac Brougham. And even that wasn't as big as some of the late 60s/early 70s iron people used to sling around. I specifically remember one of my next-door neighbors owning a mid-70s Electra 225 that looked as bombed out and depleted as a proper hooptie should.
So cars like the DTS seem a bit on the small side to me and cars like the Taurus are just big - but in all the wrong places.

I remember the first time I saw a Crosstour. My first thought was "great, now I have to clean up vomit from the car". Shortly after that, my next thought was "that thing is fucking massive".
A few years later, when I first saw the new Taurus, I freaked out because I was sure there was an oceanliner coming down the road toward me.

It does if you work in Ford's automotive design department.
Full disclosure: I drive a Ford.

Holy crap, it's nearly as wide and is actually longer then my family's 2008 Honda Odyssey! That really is a huge car.

Drove 2 Cadillacs bigger than that - '81 Fleetwood, and the '96 Sedan de Ville I rented to take the bar exam in 1997.

Oh yeah, never realized untill I drove one. A smidge over 5 feet tall too.

Taller than a GLA, a so called "SUV" by at least 2 inches.

God yes, the Taurus is monolithic. I wouldn't mind a crosstour with a lift and big meaty offroad rims and tires.

Only on the outside. Not so much on the inside.

The Fusion is one of the larger midsize cars, but the DTS is still almost 16 inches longer overall, and 3.4 longer between the wheels. It also has about 13 more cubic feet of volume in the passenger compartment.

*Genuinely thought that was my mom's Fusion for half a second*
She must have bought what is the most popular color/wheel combo out there. The only way I can ever tells her apart is the dual tips because I swear she's the only one to ever buy the 2.0T in an SE.
I always thought the Fusion seemed rather big, this just assures my thoughts.

Really? I didn't spend a whole lot of time it.

The front passenger area is rather narrow. Not unlivable or anything, but for the size of the car, it should be cavernous in there. The space is poorly utilized.

The Cadillac is significantly longer (207 inches vs 192) and 2 inches wider. The Fusion is also significantly lighter, I'm pretty sure most versions of it are 3400 lbs or less. IMO the Fusion looks big because of the high belt line. There's more visual expanse of metal there through the same length because the car is taller but with less glass.

True, the trunk is gianormous.
